ORNL researcher appointed to international journal

Richard J. Norby, a senior research staff member in the Environmental Sciences Division of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been appointed an editor of the international journal, The New Phytologist.

Published in Great Britain, it is considered one of the world's leading botanical journals. Norby is one of 14 editors and the only one from North America. Norby will edit papers in the general areas of effects of air pollutants on plants and impacts of nutrients on plant physiology.

Norby has been employed by ORNL since 1981. He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Carleton College (Minnesota) and his doctoral in forestry and botany from the University of Wisconsin.

He is a member of the Ecological Society of America and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He lives in Oak Ridge with his wife, Ellen, and son, Karl.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
