The U.S. textile industry has a cooperative research and development agreement with ORNL and DOE to develop improved technology used to produce better and longer-lasting textile products. Allgood oversees the Oak Ridge CAFE program.
He earned an associate degree in mathematics from DeKalb (Ga.) College and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee, as well as earned a master's degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in science and mechanics and operation research/management science.
He is married to Janice Allgood, who is employed by ORNL's Chemical and Analytical Sciences Division. The Allgoods reside in Powell.
