ORNL 's Sluder elected SAE International fellow

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Oct. 21, 2014 – Scott Sluder of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been elected fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers International.

Sluder was awarded the organization’s highest membership grade for his significant mobility engineering contributions, which include studies on the fouling mechanisms of exhaust gas recirculation coolers for diesel engines and research related to national fuel and emission policies.

Sluder’s research has supported the 2000 Environmental Protection Agency ultra-low sulfur diesel rulemaking, EPA decisions in 2010 and 2011 related to gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol and the EPA’s 2014 Tier 3 light-duty emissions regulations.

As an active SAE member for a number of years, Sluder has filled roles such as the chair of SAE’s Land & Operating group. Sluder received both his B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee and has been at ORNL since 1998.

UT-Battelle manages ORNL for the Department of Energy's Office of Science. The Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States, and is working to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
