SERUG promotes the professional development of Arc/Info users through training, meetings and demonstrations. Arc/Info is a computerized geographic information system package that performs spatial analyses and map creation. Arc/Info is a product of the Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc., in Redland, Calif.
Winterfield is state representative to SERUG's executive council and a member of the Tennessee Geographic Information Council. He is editor of the council's newsletter. Winterfield is also a recipient of an ORNL World-Class Teamwork Award. He is a former teacher of eighth- and ninth- grade religion and history in the Catskill, N.Y., schools.
He earned a bachelor's degree in religious studies and education from Siena (N.Y.) College and a master's degree in planning from the University of Tennessee.
Winterfield and his wife, Patricia, reside in Knoxville.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
