ORNL web sites win on-line competition

Three divisions in the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) won awards of merit and achievement in a recent on-line competition sponsored by the Atlanta Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication.

Rosemary R. Adams, Vicki L. Beets and Ann Wilson Buttram in the Computing, Information and Networking Division won an Award of Merit for the Integrated Assessment Briefs site for the Environmental Sciences Division (ESD).

Robert M. Cushman, Karen N. Gibson and Frederick M. O'Hara in the Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) won an Award Of Achievement for the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center's newsletter.

Anne R. Ehrenshaft in the Life Sciences Division won an Award of Merit for producing Biofuels Information Network website for the ESD.

Rosemary R. Adams has been an illustrator in the Graphic Services Department of the Computing, Networking and Information Services Division since 1978. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee in commercial design. She and her husband live in Maryville.

Vicki L. Beets is a technical illustrator in the Graphic Services Department of the Computing, Networking and Information Division. She received her bachelor's degree in business from Austin Peay State University. She lives in Kingston.

Ann Wilson Buttram has served as senior technical publications analyst in the Publishing Services Department of the Computing, Information and Networking Division since 1990. She received an Award of Excellence in technical publications this year from the East Tennessee Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. She received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Tennessee. She and her husband live in Knoxville with their daughter.

Robert M. Cushman joined the ESD in 1972, and has been director of the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center since 1991. He received a bachelor's degree in zoology from Swarthmore College and a master's degree in ecology from the University of Tennessee. He lives in Oak Ridge with his wife, Janet, and their two children.

Karen N. Gibson joined ESD in 1981 and has been a part of the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center since 1995. She and her daughter live in Maryville.

Frederick M. O'Hara is a technical communication consultant in ESD. He has a master's degree in technical writing from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a doctorate in mass communications from the University of Illinois. His consultancy has served the international and scientific community since 1972.

Anne R. Ehrenshaft is technical information specialist in the Life Sciences Division. She won an Achievement in Publication award in 1996 from the East Tennessee Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. She has two children and lives in Knoxville.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
