OAK RIDGE, Tenn., April 19, 2017 – Thomas Watkins, a researcher at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been elected fellow of the International Centre for Diffraction Data.

Watkins is a senior research staff member and leader of the Scattering and ThermoPhysics group in the Materials Science and Technology Division. He holds a doctorate in ceramic science from Pennsylvania State University and studies the residual stresses, x-ray and neutron diffraction characterizations, and mechanical properties of ceramics.

ICDD cited him for his “faithfulness and commitment over the years,” as well as his leadership and contributions to the society’s annual Denver X-ray Conference.

ICDD is an organization of scientists from academia, government and industry engaged in the development, curation and dissemination of X-ray powder diffraction data for the identification of materials.
