ARCS, a wide angular-range thermal to epithermal neutron spectrometer, is one of an extensive suite of inelastic instruments in operation or under construction at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. By providing a high flux of neutrons with moderate resolution and a large detector coverage, ARCS will enable studies of excitations from a few to several hundreds of meV in fields such as lattice dynamics and quantum magnetism. The construction phase of the ARCS project was completed in September 2007 with several demonstration measurements. Currently ARCS is being commissioned, and will enter the SNS general user program in the fall of 2008.
