Abstract
A triaxial rotor model with independent inertia and electric quadrupole tensors is applied to
nuclei that have certain E2 matrix elements equal to zero. It is shown that such vanishing E2
matrix elements are explained by the model as a destructive interference effect. The example of
196Pt is considered.”
