Studies at two national laboratories show that using existing transportation fuel infrastructure and systems designed for use and compatibility with gasoline and E10 at gas stations likely will create compatibility issues when used with new fuel chemistries. For more than 10 years, The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, have been evaluating what happens when new fuels come into contact with the current storage and dispensing systems.
