Multiferroicspermitthemagneticcontroloftheelectricpolarizationandelectriccontrolofthemagnetization1{8.Thesestaticmagnetoelec-tric(ME)eectsareofenormousinterest:Theabilitytoreadandwriteamagneticstatecurrent-freebyanelectricvoltagewouldprovideahugetechnologicaladvantage5{8.DynamicoropticalMEeectsareequallyinterestingbecausetheygiverisetounidirectionallightpropagationasrecentlyobservedinlow-temperaturemultifer-roics9{14.Thisphenomenon,ifrealizedatroomtemperature,wouldallowthedevelopmentofop-ticaldiodeswhichtransmitunpolarizedlightinone,butnotintheoppositedirection.Here,wereportstrongunidirectionaltransmissionintheroom-temperaturemultiferroicBiFeO3overthegigahertz{terahertzfrequencyrange.Support-ingtheoryattributestheobservedunidirectionaltransmissiontothespin-currentdrivendynamicMEeect.Thesendingsareanimportantsteptowardtherealizationofopticaldiodes,supple-mentedbytheabilitytoswitchthetransmissiondirectionwithamagneticorelectriceld.
