Critical spin fluctuations boost spin currents

Topic:

Scientific Achievement

New mechanisms for spin Hall effect are theoretically developed based on the critical ferromagnetic fluctuation of magnetic moments.

Significance and Impact

This result provides insight into how to efficiently detect or control tiny magnets in a solid, opening new pathways for room-temperature spintronics.

Research Details

  • We formulated spin Hall conductivity using a microscopic model by Jun Kondo and the self-consistent renormalization theory.
  • Predicted spin Hall conductivity is among the largest spin Hall conductivities reported so far.
  • The theoretical prediction is consistent with a recent report of the huge spin Hall effect in FexAu1-x.
  • Further enhancement is expected by magnetically-doped 4d or 5d metallic compounds.
