R&D Associate

Anthony (Tony) Birri recently joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as an R&D associate staff member in September 2021. Anthony completed a PhD from The Ohio State University in Nuclear Engineering, titled "The Development of an Optical Fiber Based Gamma Thermometer." During his time at Ohio State, Anthony focused on modeling, designing, fabricating, and testing optically-based sensors intended for high radiation, high temperature environments. Anthony's current research interests still focus on development of optically based sensors for such environments, namely for vibration sensing in nuclear microreactors. Anthony's current research interests also consist of molten salt thermophysical property measurements, molten salt thermophysical property estimation techniques, and nuclear reactor power inferencing methodology development based on responses of in situ detectors.
