Chris Ridley

High-Pressure Neutron Instrument Scientist

Chris is a high-pressure physicist working at the Spallation Neutron Source, part of the Neutron Scattering Division. He joined Oak Ridge in 2024, after working at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in the United Kingdom, where he worked on the PEARL instrument. He is an instrument scientist on BL-3 (SNAP), the dedicated extreme conditions neutron diffractometer at the SNS. He is a crystallographer, interested in measuring structure-property relationships in a wide range of materials, including Li-based compounds, hydrides, perovskite-structures, and materials demonstrating negative thermal-expansion/linear compressibility.

Chris graduated as a physicist from the University of Edinburgh in 2012 and began working with neutrons as a joint PhD student at the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions (Edinburgh, UK) and the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source (Oxfordshire, UK).
