Dale K Hensley

Controlled Synthesis Engineer

Began with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in 1983.  Associated with several research areas and 3 user facilities - ORELA (Oak Ridge Electron Linear Accelerator), SMAC (Surface Modification And Characterization research center), and CNMS (Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences Division) all at ORNL.  Involved in the beginning phase of the CNMS; initial focus was being part of a team to bring the Nanofabrication Research Laboratory (NRL) online. Presently, supports nanofabrication research involving scientists and users from academic, industrial, and government laboratories with site specific training, lab space management, tool ownership/training/support, synthesis, fabrication, and characterization. Main research focus has been the controlled synthesis of Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanofibers (VACNF) and Carbon NanoSpikes (CNS) using dc plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (DCPECVD).  200+ peer-reviewed co-authored publications and 3 patents.
