Dana M Hewit

Director, Office of Integrated Performance Management

Dana Hewit is the Director of the Office of Integrated Performance Management (OIPM) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) where her primary responsibility is to support the Deputy Director of Operations in developing, integrating, and implementing the mission support strategy for the laboratory needed to execute performance and improvement initiatives. As the director, she leads the contractor assurance and performance management systems, including institutional performance and enterprise risk management. Prior to moving into the OIPM, Dana was the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the Physical Sciences Directorate at ORNL. As COO, she supported the Physical Sciences Associate Laboratory Director in meeting the directorate objectives while maintaining excellence in research operations. Before joining ORNL in 2020, Dana spent two years at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) as the COO supporting the Research and Development Vice President. At CNL, she oversaw research activities in the areas of Energy, Health, Safety & Security, and Environment. Prior to CNL, Dana was the COO for the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), supporting the Associate Laboratory Director of Nuclear Science and Technology in research and development. Dana joined INL in 1999 as a mechanical engineer supporting site operations. Her INL experience of 19 years also included being the Deputy Director of the Nuclear Fuels and Materials Division and Program Manager for the Global Threat Reduction Initiative Domestic Reactor Conversions. She managed various other projects involving spent fuel removal and research experiments. Dana earned her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida. Prior to moving to Idaho, she worked at the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida where she designed cryogenic and high-pressure gas systems.
