Daniel L Newberry

Metallography - Staff Technician

I am responsible for the daily operations and work completion in the metallography lab as a senior technician with specialized knowledge of metallographic technical disciplines and systems. I am expected to complete major accountabilities using experience and in-depth knowledge to guide actions on progress. I have developed appropriate plans and monitor the implementation of work to ensure successful completion of projects to the highest standards. I support and guide two junior technicians.

I support senior technical staff, scientists and engineers from multiple departments across the Material Science Division for key complex projects. I have developed detailed plans and schedules for moderately sized projects or portions of large projects to attempt to keep my portion of the project time to less than three weeks on average. I am competent with all 23 relevant pieces of equipment, computer systems, 12 different software programs, hundreds of established procedures and thousands of work techniques. I have recommended improvements to procedures and work methods inside and outside the MetLab.

I possess both depth and breadth of knowledge of technical disciplines and greater experience in applying concepts and work methodologies for a range of complex systems from previous and current employments. I am constantly seeking to develop new technical knowledge, new systems knowledge and to develop new methods for accomplishing goals by enrolling in materials training. I am learning and applying new processes and complex technical solutions that impact the Met Lab positively.

The problems and systems supported that I deal with are complex, diverse and impactful in nature to the Met Lab which intern are impactful to the division. I display a successful performance which requires non-routine solutions, a depth/breadth of knowledge of the technical discipline, and the ability to understand and integrate solutions with other related disciplines to achieve the challenges of working with a multitude of various materials in the metallography lab.

My daily contacts are with my peers and junior technicians, with engineers and scientists across the division and relate to developing plans, approach to work and potential solution to complex problems to ensure quality is met a long with making the deadline. My work is monitored for project and task completion by my Group Leader.
