Gregory Warren

Instrument Engineer

Greg Warren is an Instrument Systems Engineer who supports VERITAS (HB1A), PTAX (HB1), TAX (HB3), DEMAND (HB3A), and CTAX (CG4C) at HFIR.

Greg first joined ORNL as an intern with the RRD Systems Engineering group in 2009 and came on full-time with the Instrument Operations Support Team at HFIR in 2013. While at HFIR, Greg was both a lead and support engineer on several instrument upgrade projects and expanded the Sample Management Lab in the Cold Guide Hall. He transitioned to the Second Target Station (STS) Instrument Engineering team in 2020 where he focused on developing standardized optics support and optic guide systems. He also was the engineer for the development of a vacuum-compatible Anger Camera. Throughout his career, Greg has most enjoyed supporting instrument design and upgrades for Neutron Science.

Outside of work, Greg enjoys camping and hiking with his wife and two boys, especially in the Smoky Mountains. His hobbies also include working on old vehicles and antique tools.

Greg received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville and an A.A. in Spanish from the Defense Language Institute.
