Greg J Laughon

Cold Source Lead, HFIR Systems Engineering

Greg Laughon graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from San Diego State University in 1987. He began his career at General Dynamics Space Systems Division working on ground testing and cryogenic fueling systems for Titan/Centaur and Atlas/Centaur launch vehicles. Greg then worked at Rohr Aircraft for a short while designing engine nacelles for commercial airliners. He then joined the DIII-D Magnetic Fusion facility at General Atomics as a cryogenic engineer. After seven years with fusion, Greg moved on to the Accelerator Production of Tritium (APT) project as the lead engineer for the 15kW 2K cryogenic system supporting the accelerator. Greg then moved to Oak Ridge and worked at American Magnetics, Inc. designing superconducting magnet systems and cryogenic components for various research organizations including: the LHC, the ILL in Grenoble, France, and numerous Universities. Greg joined the HFIR team at ORNL in 2013 and is currently the lead engineer for the HFIR Cold Source.
