Postdoctoral Research Associate - Lithium Extraction

Dr. Jayanthi Kumar a Materials Chemist with immense experience in the design, synthesis, and characterization of several layered materials for potential applications. She received her B.S.(2009) & M.S.(2011) in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, India. She completed her Ph.D., in Material Science at Bangalore University (2017), and worked as Research Associate in Indian Institute of Science in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry Department (2018). She joined Prof Navrotsky’s group at University of California (2019) and moved to Arizona State University(2020-2022) along with the group. She joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Nanomaterials Chemistry Group, Chemical Sciences Division in 2022.

Her expertise is layered double hydroxides, battery materials, perovskites, zeolites, electrochemistry, thermochemistry, Li extraction, and recycling battery materials. Experience in designing sorbents for Lithium extraction. Hands-on experience in structural analysis (XRD, FTIR, Raman, and SEM/EDS), analytical methods (ICP OES and ICP MS), thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, and DTA), Calorimetry (room temperature calorimetry, high-temperature melt solution calorimetry), electrochemical methods (CV, EIS and, battery testing protocols).
