Dr. Jian Chen Leads and supports a variety of fundamental and applied research and technology innovations sponsored by government agencies and industries. Current major research areas include:

  •  Lightweight dissimilar materials joining/welding techniques for car body structures and EV battery enclosures
  • Advanced welding techniques for nuclear power plant construction/repair
  • Inline manufacturing NDE, sensing, process monitoring and control
  • High-performance numerical algorithms and solvers for large-scale welding and additive manufacturing simulation
