Communications Coordinator, Fusion and Fission Energy and Science

Laura Scheele is the communications coordinator for the Fission and Fusion Energy Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Scheele guides a team of matrixed staff to develop communications products, and techniques to advance the position of ORNL fusion and fission with stakeholders.

Scheele is passionate about communicating the benefits of nuclear science to society. She joined ORNL in 2022 after serving eight years in various communications roles supporting the Nuclear Science and Technology Directorate at Idaho National Laboratory. She finished her time at INL as communications director for the Versatile Test Reactor Project.

Scheele previously worked in stakeholder relations for Energy Northwest, the owner/operator of Columbia Nuclear Generating Station, and as communications and policy manager with the American Nuclear Society. 

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Vassar College and holds a provisional Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Colorado — Boulder.
