Nicholas M Kucinski

Used Nuclear Fuel Analyst - Associate Staff Member

Nicholas Kucinski is an R&D associate in the Nuclear Materials Packaging, Transportation, and Systems Analysis group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Nicholas received a B.S.E and M.S.E in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences from the University of Michigan in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Nicholas began his career as a nuclear analyst at Holtec International in 2018. At Holtec, he performed shielding analysis of dry storage casks, criticality analysis of wet storage racks, and developed spent fuel loading plans. Nicholas joined ORNL in 2021. Currently, he works on the development of Used Nuclear Fuel-Storage, Transportation & Disposal Analysis Resource and Data Systems (UNF-ST&DARDS), which provides a comprehensive database of spent nuclear fuel and integrated nuclear and thermal analysis tools. Nicholas’s research areas include accident-tolerant and high-enrichment (LEU+) fuel impacts on the performance of dry storage systems.
