HFIR Cold Source Operations Lead

As the Cold Source Operations Group Lead, Randy is responsible for leading a team in the operations, testing, and transient response associated with the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) Cold Source Facility.  He is from Belpre, OH and served in the US Navy prior to joining ORNL. He has enjoyed 20+ years of experience at HFIR, interacting with all groups throughout the facility. Randy has been with the Cold Source facility since commissioning and has a personal mission to ensure facility reliability and longevity.

HFIR Cold Source (2006 - present) : Operation, maintenance, work control for cryogenic hydrogen and helium systems, high vacuum systems, hydrogen and helium compressors and cooling systems, O2/H2 detection, Distributed Control Systems/PLCs and reactor scram system, etc.

HFIR Nuclear Reactor Controller  (2003 - 2006): operation and monitoring of a high flux research reactor, hoisting/rigging operations, water chemistry, waste packaging, refueling/defueling, experiment loading, etc.

ORMET Primary Aluminum - Maintenance Supervisor (2002-2003) : maintenance of aluminum production facility, safety of personnel, production shops, vehicle maintenance shop, automated equipment lines, furnace refractory, pot/anode/cathode fabrication, etc.

US Navy (1991-2002): Machinist Mate (nuclear), maintenance and operation of nuclear propulsion plant, quality assurance inspector, maintenance coordinator, Nuclear Planner/Planning Supervisor.
