
Bio
Dr. Samuel F. Yana Motta is an expert in thermal systems with more than 25 years of experience in the development of heat transfer fluids and HVAC equipment. He holds a PhD and an MS in mechanical engineering from the Catholic University of Brazil, and a BS in mechanical engineering from the National Engineering University in Peru. He worked for Honeywell for 21 years as global director of technology and research fellow with a demonstrated history of innovation (author of more than 30 patents) and successful development of commercial products (R-1234yf, R-1234ze, and R-448A) for the mobile AC, Residential AC and the commercial refrigeration industries. He has authored numerous publications in scientific journals, is a member of international expert committees such as the UNEP RTOC (Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pumps Technical Options Committee) and the US TAG (task group) for the international standards ISO 817 (refrigerants) and ISO 5149 (heat pumps). He is also member of US professional organizations such as ASHRAE where he is the chair of technical committee 3.1 (refrigerants and secondary fluids), members of standard 34 (refrigerants designation) and of the committee assigned to write ASHRAE's position document on refrigerants. He is currently a distinguished R&D scientist in the Energy and Transportation Science Division at the US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
