Senior Technology Control Officer

Scott Ewing is the ORNL Partnerships Office Senior Technology Control Officer, responsible for protecting Federal government research from potential exploitation while preserving international research collaboration in critical and emerging technologies.  He manages ORNL research security policies in line with US Department of Energy requirements to support DOE’s broad scientific mission, with particular emphasis on science and technology related to industries of the future.

Prior to joining the ORNL Partnerships Office, Scott had a career spanning two decades in public and private market investing.  He was a FINRA licensed financial adviser, venture capital operating company president, and principal business analyst serving a number of angel and early-stage venture capital funds.  Scott is a veteran US Navy officer--a former Naval Aviator holding Space Operations and Political-Military subspecialist designators.   

Scott earned his master's degree in Business Intelligence and post-MBA certificate in Data Science from St. Joseph's University; also, a master's degree in International Relations from Troy University.  As an undergraduate, he majored in Government and English and received his bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College. He's earned additional diplomas or certificates in Business Intelligence, National Security Affairs, Business Administration, Financial Asset Management, and completed professional graduate-level studies in Telecommunications.
