Takuya Kurihana

Takuya Kurihana is a postdoctoral research associate for the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate at ORNL. Takuya is a computer scientist with a background in AI.  He hold a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Chicago, USA, where He specialized in developing deep neural networks for natural science applications, particularly in climate, weather, and remote sensing. Previously, He earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, with a focus on numerical weather forecasting, data assimilation, high-performance computing (HPC), and applied mathematics.

His research interests lie at the intersection of data science and natural sciences, with a particular focus on deep learning, machine learning, HPC, large-scale data science, and cloud physics. He has extensively studied self-supervised, semi-supervised deep, generative AI applications in various natural science domains, including meteorology, remote sensing, and bioinformatics.
