Xuesong Fan is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Materials Joining Group within the Materials Science & Technology Division (MSTD) of the Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He was born and raised in Hebei, China, and he completed his bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB). Pursuing advanced studies, Xuesong joined Prof. Peter K. Liaw’s research group at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), where he earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering with an Interdisciplinary Graduate Minor in Computational Science. His doctoral research focused on mechanical properties and phase transformation behaviors in high-entropy alloys. Xuesong's current work focuses on high-temperature mechanical properties of various advanced materials and their welds, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in material performance.
