Senior R&D Staff

Dr. Zain Karriem is a nuclear engineer and a Senior Research and Development Staff Member in the Research and Test Reactor Physics Group within the Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate. Zain works in the areas of reactor physics and radiation transport modeling and simulation and has worked on the design and analysis of a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (PBMR, South Africa) and various light-water power and research reactors, which include the SAFARI-1 research reactor (Necsa, South Africa) and the Advanced Test Reactor at Idaho National Laboratory. Zain’s present focus is on performing irradiation experiments for various application in the of the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). His research interests include radioisotope production, deterministic and Monte Carlo transport methods, and applied irradiation applications such as neutron imaging and the neutron irradiation effects of materials.
