The Sustainable Campus Initiative has been recognized for its excellence by various entities, including state and federal governments.

  • Federal Energy & Water Management Award in 2010 for its outstanding achievements in energy, water, and fleet management implemented under the Sustainable Campus Initiative
    • This award, presented by the Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee, honors individuals and organizations making significant contributions to the efficient use of energy and water resources within the federal Government.
  • Department of Energy Management Award in 2010 for its outstanding achievements in energy, water, and fleet management implemented under the Sustainable Campus Initiative
    • This award, presented by DOE's Federal Energy Management Program, showcases in-house energy and water savings at DOE facilities, as well as the individuals responsible for those savings.
  • “Noteworthy Practice” award in 2010 for Sustainable Campus Initiative from DOE Office of Science and DOE Environmental Sustainability (E-Star) for exemplary environment sustainability efforts
    • E-star awards are conferred on projects that demonstrate excellence in pollution prevention and sustainable environmental stewardship.
  • “Performer” level in 2010 in the Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation’s Pollution Prevention Partnership (P3)
    • Performer is the highest level in Tennessee's Pollution Prevention Partnership.
  • FY 2009 “Best in Class” award for Net-Zero-Energy Building from DOE Office of Science and DOE Environmental Sustainability (E-Star) for exemplary environment sustainability efforts
  • Water Quality Award and an Achievement Certificate in 2009 for Environmental Excellence from the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry
    • These awards are given on the basis of past performance, innovation, and compliance beyond legal requirements.
