In additive manufacturing large stresses are induced in the build plate and part interface. A result of theses stresses are deformations in the build plate and final component. One approach to this problem is to reduce the constraint of the build plate during the additive process. Designing a base plate that accommodates thermal growth may significantly decrease the residual stresses and part deformations.
