Additive Manufacture of Copper-Steel Interface Condition Control

Topic:

Invention Reference Number

202305527

This work seeks to alter the interface condition through thermal history modification, deposition energy density, and interface surface preparation to prevent interface cracking. Hybrid manufacturing enables the interleaving of directed energy deposition with a high-powered laser and subtractive manufacturing within a single work volume. The combination of these manufacturing systems enables a variety of manufacturing options that would otherwise be impossible, such as machining at temperatures above 500 degrees Celsius. This system will be utilized to alter the thermal history of the test articles to prevent interface cracking between copper and steel.
