Suman Debnath, a researcher at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been elevated to the grade of senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Senior members of the IEEE are those who have worked in a relevant field for at least 10 years and have made significant contributions to the profession.

Debnath is a research and development staff member in the Electrical and Electronics Systems Research Division at ORNL. His research focuses on applied mathematics techniques for modeling and simulation of large-scale power electronics systems and the power grid, and design optimization and multi-state optimal control of various power electronics systems. Debnath’s work includes development of multi-level converters to support high-voltage and medium-voltage direct current systems, electric drive technologies, renewable energy integration, wired and wireless electric vehicle chargers, and LED lighting.

ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy's Office of Science, the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States. DOE’s Office of Science is working to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. For more information, please visit http://energy.gov/science.
