Advanced Detection and Applied Data Science

The Advanced Detection and Applied Data Science group draws from fundamental physics to develop technologies and processes that support the design, development, and deployment of high-sensitivity detection systems for measuring radiation and other physics phenomenologies. This is achieved with the tight coupling of two capabilities: the advanced detection systems team and the applied data science team.

The advanced detection systems team specializes in developing solutions and providing scientific structure and knowledge to national security programs and in adapting to the ever-changing landscape of federal priorities.

The applied data science team specializes in designing the next generation of machine learning algorithms and the development of large benchmarked synthetic datasets.

The synergistic combination of these recognized experts in the national laboratory complex develops novel solutions addressing national-level needs with cutting-edge research and development in the areas of national security and nonproliferation.
