Dr. Jian Chen Leads and supports a variety of fundamental and applied research and technology innovations sponsored by government agencies and industries. Current major research areas include:
- Lightweight dissimilar materials joining/welding techniques for car body structures and EV battery enclosures
- Advanced welding techniques for nuclear power plant construction/repair
- Inline manufacturing NDE, sensing, process monitoring and control
- High-performance numerical algorithms and solvers for large-scale welding and additive manufacturing simulation
