Digital manufacturing

As industry transitions to late-stage research and product development, manufacturing is focusing on machining, composites, additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, robotics, controls and automation. The Manufacturing Demonstration Facility is seamlessly integrating various technologies into a digital framework to ensure facilities and intellectual capital are accessible to address challenges and adapt to emerging industry needs.

Simulation, data analytics, visualization software, artificial intelligence (AI), edge/fog/cloud operations, and machine learning are several of the computation tools being utilized to advance manufacturing processes. ORNL is developing next-generation systems and creating a digital factory that will impact energy usage and US competitiveness.
