Benjamin Manard, an analytical chemist in the Chemical Sciences Division of the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will receive the 2024 Lester W. Strock Award from the Society of Applied Spectroscopy.

R&D100 Award

In an impressive showcase of cutting-edge innovation and scientific prowess, ORNL has been recognized as a beacon of technological excellence, receiving 14 R&D 100 Awards, announced this week by R&D World magazine.

Six firms received Small Business Awards from the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The companies, selected from small business service providers to the lab, were recognized by ORNL's Small Business Programs Office for their specific capabilities and contributions.

Erin Webb, lead for the Bioresources Science and Engineering group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers — the society’s highest honor. 

David Pointer

ORNL has named W. David Pointer, director of the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division in ORNL’s Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate. As director, Pointer will lead a world-class team of ORNL research professionals focused on addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by current and future nuclear energy systems.

ORNL’s Thomas Proffen, mentee recognized by National Center for Women & Information Technology

Thomas Proffen, a neutron scattering scientist at ORNL and founder of Oak Ridge Computer Science Girls, was recognized with an award from the National Center for Women & Information Technology, or NCWIT. In addition, one of his students received a national honor from the organization. 

Neutron Scattering Society

The Neutron Scattering Society of America, or NSSA, recognized Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Ke An and Ken Herwig as fellows for their outstanding contributions to neutron scattering. 

ORNL's Kyle Gluesenkamp received the FLC Outstanding Researcher Award.

Four ORNL teams and one researcher were recognized for excellence in technology transfer and technology transfer innovation.
