Jorge Navarro

Bio

Jorge Navarro is an interim group lead and research and development staff member supporting the Systems Analysis and Optimization Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He leads the design and safety analysis of various nuclear facility systems and experiments dedicated to establishing domestic ⁹⁹Mo production. He also supports the management and coordination of the ORNL ⁹⁹Mo program. As the ⁹⁹Mo program manager, Dr. Navarro plans to execute and coordinate various R&D tasks across different ORNL directorates, external ⁹⁹Mo producers, and US Department of Energy (DOE) sponsors.  In addition, he is ORNL’s research reactor security and safety subject matter expert, as well as the Africa Region and country lead for the Office of International Nuclear Security. Dr. Navarro has worked on the design, analysis, qualification, and optimization of experiments for ORNL’s High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and Idaho National Laboratory’s Advanced Test Reactor (ATR), the country’s two largest research reactors. Dr. Navarro’s experience includes more than a decade of working at two national laboratories on various projects, including isotope production, developing nondestructive examination systems and methodologies, and neutron dosimetry studies. He has multiple publications in refereed journals and conference papers and has contributed to developing two patents.
